--In a recent national survey, people were asked what career they would select if they could work at any job. The number one choice was actor. Close behind was travel writer. A fling as an extra in Message in a Bottle a few years ago convinced me that acting is much less glamorous than it appears, especially when it involves standing on a dock in April in Maine for 12 hours a day.
     Travel writing can be fun, but it, too, has its moments, not the least of which is  having to chase a story when you'd rather be basking on the beach. Contrary to  popular belief, travel writers rarely stay in five-star hotels or snack on caviar.
On one memorable writing trip I stayed at a small, comfortable inn that looked
quite ordinary until I learned that previous visitors claimed a ghost in 19th-
century clothing walked the halls, calling guests by name. Since I was there
in the off season and alone in the building, let's just say I got plenty of
late-night reading done...

Try the Twilight Cafe´in Belfast for an excellent dinner or Sunday brunch, or head for Lincolnville Beach and the fresh lobsters at the Lobster Pound Restaurant.
